Let’s discuss the elephant in the room…

Everyone knows that lawyers are expensive – and it’s true. We could try to sugar coat it. We could tell you all about the large operating costs of running a law firm, like professional indemnity insurance, continuing legal education, office rents, support staff and all that jazz. We could tell you all of that – but we don’t need to because this is one of the ways that we’re different.

We believe that we can keep your costs down, by keeping our costs down, so we’ve re-thought the traditional law firm structure and made a few keys changes.

Firstly, we don’t have flashy CBD offices and make you come to us. Instead we utilise a network of offices around Brisbane, as well as mobile service delivery, to make sure we’re conveniently available to you when you need us. Through the use of technology, you hardly have to see us at all – but we do make it simple to book an appointment when you need to.

Secondly, we don’t employ support staff. An old-fashioned lawyer would dictate a letter, wait for the secretary to type it up, ‘settle’ the draft, send it back and forth for amendments (this could happen multiple times) and then, when the lawyer is finally happy with the letter, they sign it and give it to someone else to post. It’s just so much quicker if we just type the letters ourselves and email it! We’ve invested in technology that allows us to do this efficiently and keep things organised, so that you get the benefit of our streamlined practice structure. This also means that when you phone us – it’s us you get on the phone. All this adds up to real savings and a better experience for you.

We do like to keep things simple, so we charge a flat hourly rate. We don’t charge extra for ‘office costs’ like many lawyers do (e.g. photocopies, phone calls, faxes, postage, etc.) We view those things as the cost of doing business. Therefore, with our fixed hourly rate, it’s a simple equation for you:

our hourly rate x the number of hours actually spent bringing your matter to a resolution.

Simple.

We can also offer ‘unbundled’ services so that you can pick and choose which of our services you want. Maybe you’d just like to hire us to provide some initial advice and guidance on the process, maybe you want someone to help you formalise an agreement that you’ve reached with your ex, or perhaps you just want someone to represent you in court. Our flexible service delivery allows us to provide piecemeal service in some cases. We can also offer some of our services on a fixed fee basis, depending on the circumstances. We offer a free initial consultation so you find out more about us, and we make sure that we can help you.

Whatever way you slice it, legal costs are expensive, but we do our best to keep your costs manageable so that you can have your cake and eat it too. We always provide detailed cost estimates prior to doing the work (both at the outset and at each stage along the way). We also provide a monthly status update so you can stay on top of your legal costs and the progress we’re making towards resolving your matter. All our bills are fully itemised, so you can see how hard we’ve been working to progress your case.

Whichever way you want to engage us – what you are buying from us is the benefit of our legal skill, experience and knowledge, so we’ve stripped away all the bells and whistles and that’s what you get – just us – directly, when you need us, and without the all the fuss.
