Luke was born and raised in South East Queensland, the eldest son of a primary school teacher and a nurse.

Luke graduated from Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Laws in 1991. He was admitted to practice in 1993 after completion of articles of clerkship and in 1999, Luke achieved qualification as an Accredited Family Law Specialist.

Luke has worked in various positions throughout his career, from suburban legal aid practice to CBD private practice. In 2007, he purchased Smith & Associates Solicitors and moved into practice in his own right. After almost a decade running a large firm with multiple offices, Luke decided to scale back his practice and joined his wife, Shannon, as a consultant at Breen Smith.

Luke has over 25 years’ experience.  He specialises in family law (including the associated areas of mediation, domestic violence and surrogacy), but also regularly practices  in criminal law.  Luke was formerly an Independent Children’s Lawyer but he no longer takes on Legal Aid cases.  Luke’s broad experience, coupled with his exceptional advocacy skills, make him a highly sought after lawyer.
